Vaser Liposuction Q & A

What happens during liposuction?

Liposuction removes excess fat from targeted areas of your body using a narrow cannula (tube) and suction. Dr. Elias makes a very small incision, then inserts the cannula into the pocket of fat. As he gently moves the cannula through the fat, suction pulls out the fat cells.

Although liposuction very effectively removes fat, it still has limitations. For example, if you have loose, sagging skin or you need to lose a significant amount of weight, liposuction isn’t the best option.

It’s important to talk with Dr. Elias about your body, what you don’t like, and what you want to change. Armed with that information, he can recommend the procedure that will achieve your desired results.

What is fat grafting and how is it associated with liposuction?

Fat grafting is the opposite of liposuction because it refers to adding fat in body areas you want to build up. The first step in fat grafting is using liposuction to remove fat from other parts of your body. Then Dr. Elias processes the removed fat and injects it into the area you want enhanced.

Fat grafting is commonly used to enlarge breasts, where it takes the place of implants to produce more natural results. You may also use a fat graft to restore fullness to your face or lift your cheeks.

The most well-known example of fat grafting is the Brazilian butt lift. During a Brazilian butt lift, Dr. Elias uses your fat to enhance or reshape your buttocks and hips.

What is liposculpture?

Liposculpture refers to procedures that combine liposuction with ultrasound or laser treatment to further refine and shape your body. Ultrasound-assisted and laser-assisted liposuction provide better contouring than liposuction alone because they liquefy fat and tighten the skin.

Dr. Elias also performs six-pack liposuction, which uses liposculpture to precisely remove fat from around your abdominal muscles. The end result is a well-toned and defined six-pack.

What is 3-D body contouring?

Body contouring generally refers to any procedure that removes fat and reshapes your body. However, 3-D contouring uses radiofrequency energy that passes safely through your skin and then heats fat cells below the surface.

Fat cells break down after reaching a specific temperature. Then over the next few months, your body naturally eliminates the waste and permanently removes the fat.

You also gain another benefit with 3-D body contouring: RF energy stimulates collagen production. As old skin at the surface sheds, it’s replaced with collagen-rich skin, which means your skin is stronger and tighter.
