Are You an Ideal Candidate for All-on-4 Dental Implants?

All-on-4® implants are a way to fully restore your smile if you’re among the 40 million Americans who are missing all of their teeth. This revolutionary dental procedure uses titanium posts inserted into the jawbone to hold a row of prosthetic teeth. The result? Permanent teeth replacements that function just like your natural teeth while giving you a beautiful smile.

Southern California Center for Surgical Arts offers All-on-4 implants to appropriate candidates. Husam Elias, MD, DMD, FACS, is here to evaluate your smile and offer the best option, including dental implant options. Call today or book online to set up your evaluation.

What exactly is All-on-4?

A dental implant for a single missing tooth involves the surgical placement of a titanium post into your jawbone. After the area has healed for a time, the doctor places an abutment on the post and attaches a false tooth – a crown that looks and functions just like a natural tooth.

Implants offer the benefits of stability – you speak and chew naturally without slippage. Oral hygiene is the same as with your natural teeth. The metal posts preserve the integrity of the jawbone and fill in the gaps where teeth were originally present. This means there’s no shifting of any remaining natural teeth that can cause crooked teeth, decay, and a sagging jawline.

But, if you’re missing an entire row of teeth, placing individual implants for each missing tooth isn’t practical or realistic. Thankfully, All-on-4 is the solution.

With All-on-4 you only need four implants to anchor a full arch (upper or lower) of replacement teeth that look and feel natural. All-on-4 offers the long-lasting durability of implants without having to do an implant procedure for each tooth. Plus, it’s more affordable than multiple individual implants.

All-on-4 still gives you the benefits of jawbone preservation. Traditional, removable dentures may fill in the gaps of missing teeth, but they don’t keep your jawbone from atrophying or your facial muscles from sagging. The full arches that are placed with All-on-4 preserve your face’s shape along with providing a new, sparkling smile.

Who qualifies for All-on-4?

First and foremost, you must be in good health. Although placing the implants is relatively simple, it’s still minor surgery. You need to be healthy enough to tolerate sedation with certain types of anesthesia.

Certain medical conditions may make All-on-4 implants impossible. These include uncontrolled diabetes and previous radiation therapy of the jaw.

Good candidates for All-on-4 have healthy gums and no oral disease. Dr. Elias also evaluates the bone volume in your jaw. If it’s insufficient, you may have to undergo bone grafts prior to receiving the implants. You’re not ineligible, you just need extra support.

Smoking also precludes you from getting All-on-4 implants. The habit impedes healing and we ask that you quit prior to implant surgery.

Prior to undergoing All-on-4, we also ask that you commit to the oral hygiene habits that support healthy teeth. All-on-4 replacement teeth require the same twice-daily brushing and regular professional cleanings as a natural set of teeth.

If you think you’d benefit from All-on-4 dental implants, call us at Southern California Center for Surgical Arts. Dr. Elias can evaluate your smile to determine if All-on-4 is truly right for you. Call our office in Sherman Oaks, California, for a consultation or book online through this website.
